When is the last time Clemson football lost to Pitt?
By John Buhler
The last time the Clemson football team lost to Pitt, it helped propel them to a national title.
Though Pitt does not play the Clemson football team very often, the Panthers were able to get one past one of the greatest teams in Tigers history.
While Clemson and Pitt are among two of the most storied programs in the ACC today, the Panthers only joined the league in 2013. Though the bulk of their program’s success came in the old Big East and as an independent before that, the Panthers had one of the most unforgettable upset victories of the 2016 college football season. They handed Clemson its only loss of the year.
What a wild one it was in Death Valley on Nov. 13, 2016. Nathan Peterman beat Deshaun Watson.
Clemson football: When was the last time the Tigers lost to Pitt?
From the opening kickoff, Pitt battled Clemson play for play. The Panthers trailed the Tigers by a single point heading into halftime.
While the Tigers look an eight-point lead heading into the final frame, Pitt outscored Clemson 9-0 in the fourth quarter to hand then-undefeated Clemson a shocking 43-42 loss. Chris Blewitt nailed his 48-yard field goal with six seconds left in the game.
With Pitt ranked No. 23 and Clemson having a down year, maybe they beat the Tigers again?
