Rece Davis names Georgia defender as his Heisman pick
By John Buhler
Rece Davis is pumping up the Jordan Davis for Heisman hype train during the Georgia football team’s Week 8 bye.
It may have been early in the morning in Pasadena, but ESPN’s Rece Davis showed his support for Jordan Davis for Heisman on College GameDay.
At this point, no player has separated himself for college football’s most celebrated trophy. While a quarterback like Matt Corral at Ole Miss or Bryce Young at Davis’ alma mater Alabama, he did not back down from his claim of picking the best player on the best team in the country which would be Davis off the Georgia football team. His colleague Georgia legend David Pollack loved this pick.
While Davis should be invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, no defensive player has won the award since Charles Woodson did it for the 1997 Michigan Wolverines.
Georgia football: Rece Davis has Jordan Davis as his Heisman Trophy favorite
Though Davis will clean up during award’s season, he does not put up jaw-dropping numbers at the position he plays.
Davis is an impactful player, but some voters will need the stats to merit voting for him. It does not help he has other elite players around him in Devonte Wyatt, Adam Anderson, Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean among others in the Georgia defensive front-seven.
The only way Davis wins the award is if quarterback play is so-so and Georgia wins all its games.
