3 Astros trades that helped get them to World Series

2. Ryan Pressly, RP
Now, we look at a trade Houston made back in 2018.
Looking to bolster the bullpen, the Astros gave a call to the Minnesota Twins and successfully acquired Ryan Pressly in exchange for minor leaguers Jorge Alcala and Gilberto Celestino. The move paid off for the remainder of that season, as he accumulated a 0.77 ERA and 0.600 WHIP through 26 appearances. Pressly was just as stellar in that postseason, as he recorded a 1.80 ERA and seven strikeouts over five innings of work (five games).
Moving forward to 2021, and Pressly became Houston’s trustworthy, lock solid closer. In 64 regular-season games, Pressly accumulated a 2.25 ERA and 81 strikeouts over 64.0 innings. More importantly, the right-hander successfully recorded 26 saves in 28 opportunities.
This postseason, the 32-year-old struck out eight batters, walked none and recorded one save in six innings. Most importantly, Pressly closed the ALCS out in Game 6 to clinch the pennant.
Having a solid closer always helps. The Astros have just that in Pressly.
