The AP Top 25 saw upsets featured prominently in Week 8, with two Top 10 teams falling to unranked opponents and conference pictures starting to take shape.

Late October is Chaos SZN, and what Week 8 lacked in marquee games it made up for in season changing losses to would-be contenders. Penn State escorted themselves out of the Big Ten conversation. Oklahoma State is now in a three-way tie in the Big 12 with a loss to one of its peers.

Week 8 was also the swansong of another of our mid-major darlings, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. The team with one of the most elegant option offenses you will ever see fell to App State on Wednesday. Goodnight, sweet princes.

It wasn’t all bad, though. Lane Kiffin is undefeated since losing the Popcorn Bowl, keeping pressure on Alabama. Ohio State is showing that the Big Ten is still their conference. Oregon is still in the driver’s seat in the Pac 12, and a new favorite to win the ACC emerged in Pittsburgh.

Quite of bit of turbulence in this weeks AP Top 25. The voters decided that, yes, it does matter if you struggle against Kansas, but giving up 56 points to Army does not. Iowa somehow snuck back into the Top 10, despite Penn State’s loss removing any elite victory from their schedule.

We also saw Pittsburgh, rightly, leapfrog a handful of undefeated teams to get up to No. 17.  Oregon also jumped Michigan State, despite the Spartans undefeated record. These are two one-loss teams that have earned their spot in the Poll, and they have to be the frontrunners for their respective conferences.
