Are the Chiefs going to make the playoffs? Look at their schedule

The Chiefs have some ugly games remaining on their schedule, which may keep them from playing football in January

After an embarrassing beatdown at the hands of the Tennessee Titans, the Kansas City Chiefs sit at 3-4, a far cry from the hopes they had of going 17-0.

However, losing the chance to be an undefeated team is not what Kansas City fans are worried about. It is the waning chances to make the playoffs that have Chiefs Kingdom really up in arms.

Looking at the schedule, the playoffs seem unlikely

Of the 10 games left on the Chiefs’ schedule, seven are against legitimate playoff contenders. There is a game against the New York Giants next week that the red and gold do not need to worry about, and two games against the dysfunctional Denver Broncos remaining, but the rest of the games are potential losses.

Kansas City plays both the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys in the next four weeks. Both teams are not just shooting for the playoffs, but for the Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers may not look as impressive as they have the last two seasons, but they are 6-1 for a reason.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have one of the most efficient offenses in football, which will have a field day against the Kansas City defense that could not stop the Washington Football Team.

The Chiefs get a bye in Week 12 after those two games, but the hits do not stop coming. K.C. has games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals in Weeks 16 and 17. The Steelers may not be as good as their record last year suggested, but Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger have been doing this long enough they know how to dismantle bad defenses.

In Cincinnati, the Bengals are red hot and playing way above what anyone expected.

The remaining three potential losses for the Chiefs are divisional games

A rematch against the Chargers in Week 15 looks potentially disastrous for the Chiefs. The Chargers will be playing for the divisional title, and a statement win over the Chiefs to potentially win it would be a storybook finish for Justin Herbert and crew.

K.C. is yet to see the Raiders this season, but matchup-wise, the Raiders are the Chiefs’ worst nightmare. Vegas runs the ball effectively, which the Chiefs have shown multiple times this season they can not stop.

Even if the Chiefs manage to sell out and stop the run, Derek Carr is capable of putting the ball in the air and hitting one of his great pass catchers in Darren Waller or Henry Ruggs III. The Raiders even seem to be coached better since the last time the Chiefs saw them, with Jon Gruden no longer holding the team back.

It’s a long road back for the Chiefs.
