3 NFL quarterbacks who should be benched after Week 7
By John Buhler
Sam Darnold played like a New York Jets quarterback in his return to MetLife
It happened again. Sam Darnold saw ghosts. Though he is on a new team these days with the Carolina Panthers, the former New York Jets quarterback made his not-so-triumphant return to MetLife Stadium. Though he beat his former team head-to-head in Week 1, that game was in Charlotte. Too bad he played like he still quarterbacked the Jets vs. the awful New York Giants.
Darnold completed 16-of-25 passes for 111 yards and an interception. He got outplayed by last week’s top bench candidate Daniel Jones in a game of massive desperation for the G-Men. It was so bad for the Panthers that head coach Matt Rhule benched Darnold in favor of his former college player P.J. Walker. Apparently, Rhule needed a new quarterback, one that was more Temple Tough.
After a 3-0 start, the Panthers have lost their last four games. What makes things even worse is they will be going up against an Atlanta Falcons team that seems to be improving each week under new head coach Arthur Smith. Atlanta is not a great team by any means, but the Panthers will be at a major quarterbacking disadvantage with whoever they decide to start vs. Matt Ryan.
The Panthers, and Darnold, have regressed to the mean just in time for us to celebrate Halloween.
