Joey Gallo calls out media for blaming him for Yankees locker room drama

Joey Gallo has a problem with the media blaming him for the drama surrounding the Yankees.

New York Yankees fans are reeling after another disappointing season in the Bronx. After making moves at the trade deadline, acquiring Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers and Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs, the Yankees were expected to make a hard push at the division and even more noise in the playoffs.

Instead, they lost to arch-rival Boston in the AL Wild Card game. Gallo was 0-4 with a strikeout in the game.

In his time with New York, Gallo didn’t pan out as many had hoped, batting just .160 in 58 games with the Bronx Bombers. Rumors have been going around about the state of the Yankees locker room, and Gallo’s name has been mentioned as part of the problem.

Frustration seems to be spilling over into the offseason as he reacted on Twitter early this morning to an article he was mentioned in.

The Yankees season ended just three weeks ago and obviously, emotions are still very raw. New York is a very tough market to be a player in, and Gallo is showing a little vulnerability with his reaction. But at the same time, you can’t blame a guy for calling it what it is in the New York market. He, like many other athletes, feels they can do no right in the eyes of the media and fans.

Gallo has one more year of arbitration eligibility before he is due to enter free agency after next season. He will make $9.5 million in his final year before reaching free agency. Of course, the Yankees will have an opportunity to extend him before that, which would send New York media into a frenzy.
