Astros: 3 changes Dusty Baker must make before Game 2
By Scott Rogust
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker must consider making these three changes prior to Game 2 of the World Series after losing the opening game on Tuesday night.
The Houston Astros faced the wrath of fans for the first time since the sign-stealing scandal, and it did not phase them. They clinched the AL West title, won the pennant and reached the World Series for the third time in five years. The Astros had the chance to make their critics even angrier with a Game 1 win.
That never came to fruition, as the Astros were shelled early on by the Atlanta Braves, losing by the score of 6-2. Now down 0-1 in the World Series, manager Dusty Baker has to consider making some changes ahead of Game 2 on Wednesday night. But what should those be?
Here are three that we have in mind.
Start Luis Garcia over Jose Urquidy for Game 2
If the Astros want to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole in the Fall Classic, they should consider having rookie Luis Garcia start over Jose Urquidy for Game 2.
Urquidy did not have the greatest performance in his last postseason start. In Game 3 of the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox, the right-hander only lasted 1.2 innings after surrendering five earned runs on five hits in the 12-3 loss.
Meanwhile, Garcia was stellar in his last start on the mound, which was in Game 6 of the ALCS. The AL Rookie of the Year candidate struck out seven batters and only allowed one hit in 5.2 innings of work. Houston won that game 5-0 to clinch their spot in the Fall Classic.
Baker can not afford to lose the first two games of the World Series. If he wants to prevent that from becoming a reality, then he should give Garcia the start over Urquidy.
