Charlie Morton miraculously struck out 2 Astros hitters with a broken leg
Charlie Morton left Game 1 of the World Series with a broken leg but not before the Braves pitcher recorded two strikeouts while injured.
Despite their dominance to open Game 1 of the World Series, the Atlanta Braves got a tough break as it came to starting pitcher Charlie Morton. After taking a hard grounder off his leg, he was later forced out of the game due to injury. Unfortunately, an X-ray determined he’ll miss the rest of the series with a fractured fibula.
But as tough as that is for the Braves, it’s nowhere near as tough as the starting pitcher himself.
Whenever Morton took the groundball off his leg, he shrugged it off in the moment and stayed on the mound. The veteran hurler then proceeded to strike out two Astros and get a lineout before exiting the game.
Talk about an absolute warrior.
Charlie Morton injury hurts the Braves but the veteran pitcher is tough as nails.
With Charlie Morton out for the rest of the World Series, that’s a big blow to Atlanta.
One of the biggest advantages the Braves had over the Astros coming into the final seven-game set of the MLB Postseason was the pitching depth. Now, by taking one of their best starters out of the rotation, that mitigates that advantage in a major way.
It should be said, that, if Atlanta continues to dominate in the manner they did right out of the gates in Game 1, they won’t need to get into their pitching depth. But, still, it’s something that is on the table for them now.
Regardless of how the team proceeds without Morton, though, no one can remotely question that the righty has the heart of a lion to not just pitch through the injury but mow down Houston hitters while doing so.
