Oldest pitcher to start a World Series game
By Scott Rogust
With Game 1 of the 2021 World Series under way, who exactly is the oldest pitcher to ever play in the Fall Classic?
The 2021 World Series has officially begun. The Atlanta Braves, who won 88-games in the regular-season, defeated the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers to reach the Fall Classic for the first time since 1999. As for the Houston Astros, they went through the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox to reach their third World Series in five years.
Charlie Morton will get the start for the Braves on Tuesday night at 37 years old. That got us wondering — who is the oldest pitcher to ever start in a Fall Classic game?
Who is the oldest pitcher to start a World Series game?
The oldest pitcher to ever start a game was Jack Quinn. The pitcher who used the spitball was 46 years, three months, and seven days old when he started for the Philadelphia Athletics in the 1929 World Series, per Baseball Reference.
Philadelphia defeated the Chicago Cubs in five games.
Interestingly enough, Quinn is also the oldest pitcher to enter in relief during a World Series, as he did so in 1930 at 47 years old, per Baseball Almanac.
