Lol Mets: New York denied yet another front office candidate thanks to Brewers

While the New York Mets were hoping to steal Matt Arnold from the Milwaukee Brewers, that won’t be happening. 

Who’s going to end up becoming the new President of Baseball Operations for the New York Mets? Things continue to get more and more difficult for the NL East club, as the latest reports from Milwaukee sure are back-breaking for Steve Cohen.

This week, reports surfaced saying that the team was zeroing in on Milwaukee general Manager Matt Arnold. Before any momentum could even arrive, Arnold withdrew his name from consideration and even signed a contract extension with the team. So, what’s coming next in Queens?

Matt Arnold going from the Brewers to Mets was never going to happen

According to Andy Martino of SNY, Milwaukee denied New York permission to even speak with Arnold. While the Mets were hoping the Brewers would budge, they didn’t and then soon after a contract extension was put on the table. That’s quite the statement move there from Milwaukee.

At the same time for the Mets, this has got to be incredibly frustrating for them. This team is in need of a new leader for the front office and things haven’t gone smoothly in going after potential candidates.

This comes after a disappointing year for the team in 2021. While New York was in first place early on in the season, things sputtered from there. There was plenty of excitement in Flushing at the trade deadline too, especially after landing Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs.

Despite that, the Mets finished in third place of the NL East with their 77-85 record, missing out on the playoffs. In the hunt for a new President of Baseball Operations, it’s back to the drawing board for Cohen and Co.
