The Lakers did not win on Wednesday night. That would be the simplest way to put matters. Instead, they blew a huge lead to the OKC Thunder.
The Thunder had to get their first win of the season sometime! Unfortunately for them, the Lakers fell asleep at the wheel after just one quarter of play.
The Lakers were up 41-19 at the end of the first quarter. It does not matter that LeBron James isn’t playing. And it does not matter that Anthony Davis is coming off injury.
No, the Lakers should be able to defeat this Thunder team, especially considering the number of future Hall of Famers on the roster, and the fact that they’re supposedly Western Conference favorites despite coming nowhere near that feat last season.
Instead, this was Russell Westbrook’s statline.

AND lastly, this was Westbrook finding a way to get ejected with 1.9 seconds remaining.

Believe it or not, those do not count towards the funniest tweets.

Is there anything left to report?
Nope. The only thing left to do is laugh. Enjoy, social media surveyors.

Going to be hard for the Lakers to have a more embarrassing loss all year than this one.

The Thunder say their 26-point comeback vs. the Lakers equals the largest comeback in Thunder history.

The Lakers entered play with a 230-0 record (including playoffs) when leading by at least 25 points in a game over the last 25 seasons.

They led by 26 tonight, their largest blown lead over that span. pic.twitter.com/2fd5GdH5Dd

LORD HAVE MERCY: Lakers had 3 late threes to make it a game at OKC. 1) a Westbrick brick 2) a Monk air ball 3) an even worse Melo air ball. Russ: A QUADRUPLE DOUBLE including 10 more turnovers! Has to be one of ugliest losses in Lakers history.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) October 28, 2021
For once, Skip might actually be right. The Lakers deserves plenty of criticism.
The Lakers are 2-2 on the season after the loss. It was always going to take some time for this team to mesh, especially with James resting a bit early in the season.
Nonetheless, it’s important for James to get this rest. Conference seeding is important, but as long as the Lakers make the playoffs come the end of the year, they’ll have reached their initial goal of at least making the field and avoiding the play-in tournament.
Anthony Davis and Westbrook combined for 50 points. On most nights, even without James, that will be enough. Unfortunately for LA, they fell asleep defensively and turned the ball over far too often. The Thunder, to their credit, were ready and willing to take advantage of that.
Next. 3 Lakers who won’t be on the roster by season’s end. dark
