Packers get worst news possible on Robert Tonyan’s injured knee
Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan went down with an injury on Thursday night and it has since been confirmed he tore his ACL.
As soon as Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan went down on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, you just had a feeling things were serious. The pass-catcher was on the turf in an incredible amount of pain, holding his knee.
Unfortunately for head coach Matt LaFleur and signal-caller Aaron Rodgers, Tonyan is now out for the rest of the campaign. On Friday afternoon, Tonyan’s agent took to Twitter to let folks know that his client tore his left ACL. This is just brutal news for Green Bay.
Robert Tonyan tore his ACL in the win over Arizona on Thursday night
On the play where Tonyan got injured, he broke free down the middle of the field for a big gain. Rodgers put the ball on the money and Tonyan had plenty of green in front of him. However, he landed awkwardly on his knee after taking a hit from Arizona safety Jalen Thompson.
After that, Tonyan limped back to the locker room. From that moment, Green Bay supporters had a feeling that the tight end wouldn’t be able to make his way back this season. It’s a tough break for Tonyan. On the year thus far, he had posted 18 receptions for 204 yards and two scores.
His best game of the season came last week in the convincing win over the Washington Football Team, as he hauled in five catches for 63 yards and a score. He and Rodgers were finally starting to develop some chemistry. Now, though, Tonyan will have to wait until 2022 to be able to make some more plays for the Packers and LaFleur.
