Alen Babic isn’t the most skilled or polished heavyweight boxer, but he certainly packs a punch. His opponent on Saturday, Oct. 30, Eric Molina, found that out the hard way.
Babic (9-0, 9 KOs) made quick work of Molina in London’s O2 Arena on the undercard of the Chantelle Cameron vs. Mary McGee main event. Molina had a tough time staying on his feet. It only took Babic five seconds to floor Molina for the first time.
The 39-year-old former title contender Molina (28-8, 20 KOs) got to his feet and somehow survived the round. He was on borrowed time.
In round 2, Molina went down again about 16 seconds into the round. He claimed he was hit in the back of the head and struggled to get to his feet. Seconds later, he was down from a Babic left hand.
Eric Molina was in for a painful, short night after getting stopped by Alen Babic in round 2
Molina again got up but crumpled to the canvas for the fourth time of the fight. He appeared to have been pushed down, but the referee started counting. Molina was exhausted and barely got back up. The referee saw enough and put a stop to the fight.
Molina once challenged for the WBC heavyweight title against Deontay Wilder in 2015 but lost by KO in 9. He also fought Anthony Joshua for the IBF strap in 2016 but was stopped in round 3. The teacher from Texas looked like a shot fighter and should call it quits.
Babic remains undefeated but probably didn’t gain much from his latest outing other than another notch in the win column.
