The search for the next LSU football coach could stay in the SEC if Scott Woodward listens to the name David Pollack discussed recently.

LSU athletic director Scott Woodward is looking to make a splash when he hires the Tigers’ next head coach.

Kentucky’s Mark Stoops wouldn’t exactly fit that mold, but David Pollack and Peter Burns on ESPN’s “SEC This Morning” think his name could come up.

LSU coach search: Mark Stoops could be a target

“Mark Stoops, I don’t think he’d be a hot name at LSU, as far as 1, 2, 3 or 4, but let me ask you, Peter Burns, I don’t think you’d be upset if they got him, would you?” said Pollack via Saturday Down South.

Burns proposed Brian Kelly of Notre Dame as a top target but had major praise for Stoops as well.

“What he has had the time to build under Mitch Barnhart has been fantastic as far as developing talent,” Burns said. “I think it would be awesome to see that.”

Stoops took over at Kentucky in 2013 and he’s steadily built that program up in a tough division. The Wildcats had three losing seasons followed by two 7-6 campaigns before a breakthrough 10-3 season in 2018. This year, they are 6-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of No. 1 Georgia.
