AP Top 25: Michigan State rises; Iowa, Kentucky fall in Week 10 college football rankings
We’re heading into November and there is still no clear picture of what the bottom fifteen to twenty teams are in the AP Top 25. Week 9 did nothing to help that.
It was referred to as separation Saturday, but it was just more chaos for the also-rans in the Top 25. Iowa continued their October from — earmuffs — Heck, getting blown out by Wisconsin and taking a backseat in any Big Ten conversation. On the good side of the Big Ten, Michigan State, with a gift or two, asserted themselves as the team to challenge the Buckeyes.
The ACC gods have delayed Pitt’s rise to prominence like a Wake Forest handoff. Auburn put it on Ole Miss, knocking the Rebels out of SEC contention. Kentucky showed that it isn’t ready yet at all. And the mid-majors laid eggs in the bottom of the Top 25.
All we can say now is that Georgia doesn’t need a competent quarterback to win the rest of their schedule, and we are staring down a genuine mess when it’s time for the Playoff Committee to sort out the Top 4.

Michigan State’s win over Michigan gave the Spartans the juice to jump an Ohio State team that is really rolling right now. Go ahead and circle November 20 now. That game is going to be bonkers.
Elsewhere, it seems that the AP just can’t quit the Hawkeyes or the Nittany Lions. Other than that, it’s quite clear the mid-majors are reigning supreme in the bottom 10 in the Top 25. Hard to say how this will play out in the future, but for now, our murky middle is the domain of the little guys.
