3. Jake Spavital – Texas State

Like Littrell, Texas State Bobcats head coach Jake Spavital was once considered a brilliant offensive mind who was going to help turn a small Texas school into a winner through an innovative offense and a bunch of points.

Unlike Littrell, Spavital hasn’t really had any fun seasons.

To be fair, he’s just now in his third year in San Marcos, but things aren’t pretty for the Bobcats. Texas State is sitting at 2-6 right now and was just blown out 45-0 by Billy Napier and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

Spavital probably deserves more time, but is there a guarantee that his program will start winning any time soon? Granted, is there a guarantee that someone else will win at a high level than Spavital can?

That makes the situation a little tricky for Texas State.

All that acknowledged, the way the Bobcats are struggling shouldn’t be acceptable. There aren’t many excuses that can be made for that sort of performance.

Texas State has four games left on its schedule and will have chances to put up some points here and there. At the beginning of the year, the Bobcats looked great against the Baylor Bears and gave a legitimately good team a legitimate struggle.

Maybe we’ll see some performances like that down the stretch.
