2021 NFL power rankings, Week 9: Cardinals fall for first time
Winners of two straight games, the Colts had an opportunity to get to the .500 mark if they could cool off the surging Titans. Frank Reich’s club fell at Nashville back in Week 3.
This time around, Carson Wentz threw a pair of first-quarter TD passes to Michael Pittman to give his club an early 14-0 lead. But he also served up interceptions in the fourth quarter (returned for a touchdown) and overtime – setting up Tennessee’s game-winning kick in OT.
The Broncos were hoping to recapture their earlier season form when they hosted struggling Washington. The team brought a four-game losing streak into this interconference match-up. It was a rough outing for the Denver offense.
But Teddy Bridgewater and company did just enough to get the job done, throwing for 213 yards. Melvin Gordon scored both of the Broncos’ touchdowns but also fumbled late in the game to give Washington a chance.
The struggling 49ers took a four-game losing streak into their clash with the Bears at Soldier Field. Kyle Shanahan’s club gained 204 yards of total offense in the first half but settled for three field goals.
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 322 yards and ran for two scores and Elijah Mitchell rushed for 137 yards and one TD. The defense allowed Justin Fields to run for 103 yards. But they also sacked the rookie signal-caller four times and stole one of his passes.
