Kansas City Chiefs fans are quick to note that Arrowhead Stadium is one of the loudest environments in the NFL, holding a Guinness World Record twice.

When it comes to the world’s loudest stadium, it’s difficult to compete with any NFL team.

But Arrowhead Stadium, which has available room for over 76,000 cheering fans, has one of the most passionate fanbases in the NFL. And when all of those fans come together to rattle opponents and claim a win, it’s enough to break the Guinness World Record Book — twice.

Chiefs fans have claimed the honor of the loudest stadium twice in recent years: first in 2013, then again in 2014. Currently, the Chiefs maintain a Guinness World Record that has yet to be broken as the loudest stadium in the world.

Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium topped Guinness World Record Book as loudest stadium in the world — twice

The first time the Chiefs broke the world record was on Oct. 13, 2013, when the Chiefs hosted the Oakland Raiders. Chiefs fans roared to the tune of 137.5 decibels (dB), the world record at that time.

Remarkably, the record was broken only two months later when Seattle Seahawks fans racked up 137.6 dB in a 34-7 win over the New Orleans Saints. The sound was so powerful that it not only broke the decibel record: it recorded seismic activity.

But the Chiefs were determined to reclaim the record, which they eventually did the following season during a Monday Night Football game on Sept. 29, 2014. When the Chiefs hosted the New England Patriots that night, fans recorded an ear-splitting 142.2 dB measurement.

It was no accident that Arrowhead roared with thousands of record-setting cheers: this was exactly what Chiefs fans have battled for in their own NFL competition.

“The Chiefs wanted the record so badly they paid $7,500 to fly in a Guinness World Records adjudicator make the feat official,” reads a NOLA.com article from 2013. The article was written Nov. 30, three days before the Seahawks would reclaim the record from the Chiefs.

But in the Chiefs-Seahawks back-and-forth, the Chiefs ultimately have the last word — and the record for the world’s loudest stadium at 142.2 dB.
