Is Chiefs RB Derrick Gore related to Frank Gore?

Kansas City Chiefs running back Derrick Gore has the same last name as long-time NFL back Frank Gore, but is he related to the future Hall of Famer?

The name on the back of the Chiefs jersey may say “Gore”  but that’s not Frank Gore rushing for Kansas City in 2020.

It’s Derrick Gore, a running back out of Louisiana-Monroe by way of Alabama.

No, Derrick is not related to Frank.

Derrick started his college career at Alabama before transferring to Louisiana-Monroe. While he featured for the Warhawks, it wasn’t enough to get him drafted. Was on the Chargers’ practice squad in 2019 and 2020 before signing with the Chiefs in February.

He made his NFL debut this year at 27 years old but got his first carries on Monday Night Football against the Giants, scoring his first career touchdown in the second quarter.

As for Frank, he last played for the Jets in 2020. He ranks third all-time in rushing yards and fourth all-time in yards from scrimmage. He made it to the Pro Bowl five times.

There’s a very good chance Frank Gore will eventually end up in the NFL Hall of Fame. Derrick Gore is just getting his shot. He can only hope he stays in the league until he’s 37 years old like Frank.
