It was a wild week in college football in Week 9, and there are some teams who are set for an upset as we start the November stretch run.

There was upset after upset after upset this past week in college football. No National Title contender got knocked off its perch, but two top-ten teams in Ole Miss and Iowa were knocked off. The Hawkeyes were taken out by unranked Wisconsin. Michigan failed again, which really shouldn’t be that surprising at this point. Iowa State couldn’t stay ranked for very long. Plus, the roller coaster ride that comes with rooting for Kentucky football continued with a loss to Mississippi State.

This week, it’s put up or shut up week. A lot of these teams in the conversation for the College Football Playoff aren’t facing the hardest opponents. The opponents of Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Cincinnati, and Oregon are all sitting at a .500 record or worse this week. Oklahoma is off this week, and Michigan State faces a 5-3 Purdue team. Will we see any huge upsets here, or should bettors be looking at more sensible options?

College football upset pick Week 10, No. 5: Virginia Tech

Rank: NR | Opponent: at Boston College | Time: Friday, Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m. ET

This might not be must-see TV, but the Boston College-Virginia Tech game is going to get a ton of eyes because it is on a Friday night in early November. People will put it on their TVs because at least it’s still football. Virginia Tech hasn’t been great here, but they’ve been much better than Boston College as of late. The Eagles started the season with a 4-0 record, but they’ve lost every single ACC game they’ve played.

Boston College has not been able to stop the big play, allowing three huge touchdowns to the Syracuse Orange in the third quarter last weekend. This week, it’s a short week for both Boston College and Virginia Tech.

The Eagles are returning home hoping to find some magic at Alumni Stadium. Tech is getting points after they just ended their own month-long losing streak, so this isn’t exactly a world-beater we’re talking about. Take the points (+3) and run with Boston College.
