Cops tried to arrest one of the Braves’ best pitchers during his own parade

Cops overseeing the Atlanta Braves parade celebrating the World Series made an embarrassing mistake when they almost arrested pitcher Tyler Matzek.

Maybe all of the police officers who are also baseball fans in the city of Atlanta made sure they got Friday off to celebrate their hometown team’s World Series title.

That could explain how on earth heroic reliever Tyler Matzek almost ended up getting arrested during his own championship parade.

At some point as the Braves buses were making their way to Truist Park in front of thousands of cheering fans, Matzek got off the bus. The cops who saw him in the middle of the parade route were not pleased.

Fortunately, someone figure out that Matzek wasn’t just some random fan trying to invade the team bus. He was Tyler Matzek, the pitcher whose performance in Game 6 of the NLCS against the Dodgers will go down as one of the all-time reliever appearances for the Braves.

Matzek came into the game with runners on second and third and no outs in the seventh inning. He proceeded to pitch two perfect innings, throwing 17 pitches with 15 strikes, four strikeouts and stranding the two runners.

His outing helped the Braves clinch the pennant and sent them to the World Series where they took down the Astros in six games.
