Super lightweight Elvis Rodriguez rebounded well from his lone defeat by stopping Juan Pablo Romero on the Canelo vs. Plant undercard.

Elvis Rodriguez set a nice tone for the Nov. 6 Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant Showtime boxing card. He started slow but finished extremely fast in knockout fashion.

Rodriguez (12-1-1, 11 KOs) lost his previous bout in May to Kenneth Sims Jr. by majority decision. It was a disappointing performance, but the 25-year-old originally from the Dominican Republic didn’t disappoint against Juan Pablo Romero.

Romero (14-1, 9 KOs) came into the fight undefeated, and he looked good to start the contest. He beat Rodriguez to the body for the first few rounds. Rodriguez wasn’t doing much in round 1 but started to wake up in round 2.

By round 4, Rodriguez was in full gear, and he dropped Romero. Romero survived the round and looked recovered in round 5, but with one second left, Rodriguez landed a straight left to Romero’s chin, and he fell to the canvas.

Romero stared at the referee as he counted off seconds, but he didn’t react, giving Rodriguez the round 5 KO.

Rodriguez is back on track and flashed the promise that made him a prospect fans were excited about. He thrilled on the big Alvarez vs. Plant stage.
