Georgia football honored one of their greatest coaches as Mark Richt returned to Athens for the Dawgs game against the Missouri Tigers.
Former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt had one of the greatest tenures any coach has had in Athens and the Bulldogs made sure to honor him Saturday during their game against the Missouri Tigers.
First, an emotional and clearly honored Richt received the opportunity to call the Dawgs, one of Georgia’s favorite traditions, one final time:
Then the Bulldogs carved out time at halftime for their former head coach to receive some recognition for all that he accomplished while in Athens:

And Richt has certainly accomplished quite a bit. While he was never able to guide Georgia to a national championship, he still won far more than most coaches ever have the opportunity to.
From 2001-2015, Richt led the Bulldogs to 145 wins while only suffering 51 losses, a fairly remarkable record.
Along with that, Richt and Georgia won the SEC East six times and won the SEC twice. Unsurprisingly, Richt was SEC Coach of the Year twice during his time at Georgia.
The Bulldogs should be grateful for all that Richt did for them. While Kirby Smart has been able to sustain the program that Richt built, the steady success Richt had for a decade and a half deserves all the recognition it could possibly ever receive.
Mark Richt’s health has been a concern since he disclosed a Parkinsons diagnosis
Richt revealed in July he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. It was nice to see him seemingly looking well and in good health at the game on Saturday. He continues to work with the ACC Network.
