The Seattle Seahawks make a lot of sense for Odell Beckham Jr. with the cap space to afford him and the incentive to claim him off waivers.

Now that Odell Beckham Jr. has been released by the Browns, the topic occupying just about every NFL conversation this weekend will be about his eventual destination.

First, we need to find out if he clears waivers.

If a team picks him up off of waivers, they’d be on the hook for his $7.25 million salary. That will limit the number of teams who could put in a claim.

The

Seahawks

are one of those teams that could afford him. And they’re high enough in the waiver order with the ninth priority claim to make sense as the favorites to land him through that route.

The Seahawks could be the favorites to land Odell Beckham Jr.

The Jaguars, Eagles and Washington Football Team are ahead of Seattle with cap space to play with. However, none of those teams have the incentive to win now that looms over the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll and Seattle need to have Russell Wilson in mind. Would it make him happy and more likely to stick around long-term if he returned from injury with a new potentially elite third wide receiver option? If the answer is yes then they have to act.

The Seahawks already have a formidable receiver duo in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. However, the team as spoken openly about wanting a third receiver to support those guys and OBJ could absolutely fill that role for the second half of the season.

It could be the move that saves Carroll’s job, keeps Wilson happy and gets them back in the playoff hunt.

When will Russell Wilson return?. dark. Next
