Steelers getting first-hand look at 2 potential Ben Roethlisberger’s replacements in same college game
Ole Miss and Liberty should have Steelers fans tuning in for college football action because Matt Corral or Malik Willis could replace Ben Roethlisberger.
What interest should Pittsburgh Steelers fans have in a game played in Oxford, Mississippi between Ole Miss and Liberty?
Their quarterback of the future may very well be playing.
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis are among the top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft and they’re facing off on Saturday with scouts from the Steelers in attendance.
Ben Roethlisberger replacement: Matt Corral and Malik Willis are options
Since Corral plays in the SEC, opportunities to check him out come fairly regularly. However, Willis doesn’t get as much national TV time playing for Liberty.
Pro Football Network ranks Corral as their No. 1 quarterback prospect thanks to “arm talent in spades” and “athleticism in bunches.” It helps that he “may have the best field vision in the class.”
The same publication has Willis fourth in the class as “the country’s most athletic and dynamic quarterback.” The only knock against him is consistency in making “NFL throws” to the sticks.
Walter Football has Corral at No. 1 and Willis at No. 2, which might highlight the biggest barrier to the Steelers picking up either one. Pittsburgh might not have a bad enough record by the end of the 2021 season to claim a high first-round selection.
Still, both of these guys are worth monitoring, especially if they fall into the Steelers’ draft range. After all, the draft process is unpredictable.
