College football bowl projections Week 11: Georgia vs. Ohio State in Orange Bowl
By Ethan Lee
As we head into the home stretch of the 2021 college football season, many college football fans are intrigued about their team’s possible bowl destinations.
While there are a handful of programs that will be competing in the College Football Playoff and a variety of others facing off in historic bowl games, most college football teams will be looking forward to getting some more experience through extra bowl practices
Here’s how Brett McMurphy of the Action Network believes this upcoming bowl season will playout:
2021 college football bowl projections after Week 10
College Football Playoff projections
- Capital One Orange Bowl – No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 Ohio State
- Goodyear Cotton Bowl – No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Oregon
The most interesting thing to note here is that McMurphy apparently believes the Ohio State Buckeyes will somehow make it through the following opponents unscathed: Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, and whoever is in the Big Ten Championship Game. That’s certainly possible, but the Buckeyes have been a little inconsistent at times. We’ll see how that plays out.
New Year’s Six Bowl projections
- Allstate Sugar Bowl – Oklahoma State vs. Alabama
- Rose Bowl – Michigan State vs. Utah
- PlayStation Fiesta Bowl – Texas A&M vs. Cincinnati
- Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl – Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest
McMurphy, along with many others, seems to believe that the Cincinnati Bearcats will get left on the outside looking in of the College Football Playoffs. That’s not exactly something that would be shocking considering the playoff committee’s history of hesitancy when it comes to rewarding Group of Five teams, even if they are unbeaten.
The Bearcats have done just about everything they could do up to this point, except for winning with style points. Unfortunately for them, there’s a very real shot they won’t make it to the playoffs even if they have a perfect season.
The Fiesta Bowl, along with most other bowl games, should be seen as a prize for teams to be thrilled to play in. There’s a ton of history there and it’s a prominent bowl game, but Cincinnati will probably view that as some sort of degrading consolation prize if they can’t make the playoffs.
