All eyes will be on where former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ends up after being released by the team.

The Odell Beckham Jr. experiment in Cleveland has reached its end. Two years after acquiring him in the shocking trade with the New York Giants, both parties mutually agreed to part ways this past week.

With that, many NFL fans are wondering — has the wide receiver has cleared waivers yet?

Has Odell Beckham Jr. cleared waivers?

The answer to that is no.

Beckham has not been placed on waivers officially as of this writing. The wideout will officially be released by the Browns on Monday. From there, teams will have 24 hours to place a claim in for the former 2014 first-round pick.

The team with the winning waiver claim will be revealed on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. But that is only if a team chooses to pick up the remaining $7.25 million on his contract this year before he becomes a free agent this upcoming offseason. If Beckham goes unclaimed, he will be able to sign with any team he so chooses.

Why was Odell Beckham Jr. released?

Beckham was not happy with his role on the Browns. On the day of the NFL trade deadline, Beckham’s father posted a lengthy video on social media showing Beckham being open during games but quarterback Baker Mayfield not throwing to him. NBA superstar LeBron James then sent out a tweet in support of Beckham with the hashtag “FreeOBJ.”

After no trade was made at the deadline, Beckham was excused from practice by the team for Wednesday and Thursday. Following internal discussions, general manager Andrew Berry announced in a statement this past Friday that it was “in the best interest of all parties that Odell no longer play for the Cleveland Browns.”

As part of the release, the Browns agreed to rework his contract to void the final two seasons of his deal (2022-23). That meant Beckham can hit unrestricted free agent after this campaign.

In his three seasons with the Browns, Beckham recorded 114 receptions for 1,586 yards and seven touchdowns on 210 targets.
