Chet Holmgren immediately lives up to the hype for Gonzaga basketball

No. 1 overall recruit Chet Holmgren made a statement in his debut game with Gonzaga on Tuesday night.
As is the case every season, there is hype surrounding the Gonzaga Bulldogs. They may hae fell just short of winning the National Championship last year, but fans had plenty ot look forward to in the 2021-22 season. Like, the debut of class of 2021 top-overall recruit Chet Holmgren.
Holmgren did not waste anytime to leave speechless, as he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 97-63 win over the Dixie State Trailblazers. The freshman center recorded 14 points, 13 rebounds, seven blocks and six assists in his first official game with Gonzaga.

To say that Holmgren’s debut was historic is not hyperbole. According to ESPN Stats and Info, Holmgren is the first player in the last 25 seasons to record 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in his Division I debut.
The hype around the seven-foot center is legitimate, as if his first game was not proof enough.. Prior to the start of the season, Holmgren has the third-best odds of winning the Naismith College Player of the Year award, per WynnBet.
If you did not catch Holmgren’s debut, his second-ever game is going to be one of interest. On Saturday night, top-ranked Gonzaga takes on the No. 5 Texas Longhorns in what should be a tremendous game.
