Alex Caruso explains why he signed with the Bulls in free agency

While Alex Caruso was hoping to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Chicago Bulls presented him with a much better offer he simply had to take. 

During the offseason, the Chicago Bulls surprised plenty of folks when they went out and signed guard Alex Caruso to a four-year contract. Caruso clearly wanted to stay with the LA Lakers, but things never got close between the two sides.

This week, Caruso revealed that the Lakers really didn’t come close to putting the amount of money he wanted on the table, while Chicago’s four-year, $37 million offer, coupled with his conversations with the front office, really helped send things over the top.

In the video above, Caruso made it more than clear that Los Angeles didn’t make him a priority in free agency. Their initial offer was something Caruso wasn’t going to accept and when he went back to the team to see if they’d at least come close to what Chicago was offering, they passed.

With that said, Caruso also said that he had great conversations with head coach Billy Donovan, plus vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas before he ended up signing his contract with Chicago.

Thus far this campaign, things have gone according to plan for the Bulls, as they’re currently 7-3 through the first 10 games on their schedule. Meanwhile, the fourth-year guard is averaging 7.8 points and 3.9 assists in a little under 28 minutes a night.

With the Bulls hoping to go on a deep postseason run, all eyes will of course be on DeMar DeRozan, Zach Lavine and Lonzo Ball. Don’t forget about Caruso, however, as he’ll be ready to make plenty of plays for his team as well.
