When is the last time Florida State beat Miami football?
By Ethan Lee
Miami has a four-game winning streak over Sunshine State rival Florida State entering their Week 11 game in Tallahassee.
The Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles are two prominent college football programs that happen to be pretty down on their luck. That’s especially true when considering the history of these two teams and all they’ve accomplished with some legendary coaches and star players throughout the years.
There’s an intense rivalry between Miami and Florida State with the series being relatively even in terms of which team has come out on top.
That said, the Seminoles haven’t been able to break through and beat Miami in recent years. While many of the games between the two teams have been close contests, the two most recent meetings have been lopsided losses for Florida State.
The Seminoles were crushed in 2020 as Miami went on to win 52-0. In 2019, things were a bit more competitive, but not in any significant way as the Hurricanes won 27-10.
FSU football seeks first win over Miami since 2016
In the 2018 and 2017 matchups between the two teams, Miami won by scores of 28-27 and 24-20, respectively.
Florida State’s last win in this series came five seasons ago, in 2016, as the No. 23 Seminoles barely managed to get a 20-19 road win over the No. 10 Hurricanes.
DeMarcus Walker blocked the game-tying extra point try from Miami kicker Michael Badgley with 1:38 left to preserve the win for the Seminoles. This was the seventh win in a row for FSU over their in-state rivals.
FSU football has been on the wrong end of the Sunshine State rivalry ever since.
The Hurricanes look to build on their four-game winning streak in this rivalry and there’s a good chance they’ll be able to do it. Mike Norvell is struggling to get Florida State turned around. Even though Manny Diaz is having his own issues at Miami, the Hurricanes are riding a three-game win streak coinciding with the improved play of quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and bring a 5-4 record to Saturday’s game.
Florida State is 3-6 and coming off back-to-back losses to Clemson and NC State.
