Projected college football rankings after Oklahoma loses to Baylor, Michigan beats Penn State
By John Buhler
With Oklahoma falling to Baylor and Michigan State holding on to beat Penn State, here is what the top 10 of the next AP To 25 poll could look like.
There are only three undefeated teams left in college football after the Baylor Bears handed the Oklahoma Sooners their first loss of the season.
While the College Football Playoff Selection Committee had the Sooners ranked No. 8, the AP had Oklahoma as the No. 4 team in the country. After losing badly to Baylor, the Selection Committee was validated by not ranking the Sooners as highly as the AP did. Though the College Football Playoff Rankings reign supreme now, the Sooners’ loss to Baylor will certainly impact the AP Poll.
Here is what the top 10 of the next AP Top 25 poll may look like in the next college football rankings.
College football rankings projection after Oklahoma upset by Baylor
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Cincinnati Bearcats
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oregon Ducks
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Michigan State Spartans
- Michigan Wolverines
- Oklahoma State Cowboys
- Baylor Bears
Assuming no other upsets this week, Georgia maintains its top spot with Alabama switching places with Cincinnati at No. 2. The Bearcats drop down to No. 3 with Ohio State and Oregon rounding out the top five. Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan and Oklahoma State are teams No. 6 through No. 9. Baylor takes the No. 10 spot after their win over the Sooners.
What Oklahoma’s loss means is that the Sooners are in no way, shape or form among the very best teams in college football this year. Yes, they still have time to redeem themselves, but not being able to do very much on offense at Baylor was a telling sign. They need to win their next three games if they want any shot at making it into the College Football Playoff. They need help.
Though there may be some other movement in the top 10, it is certain that Oklahoma will take a tumble in the next AP Top 25 poll.
