Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James was hyped after his Florida State Seminoles defeated the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday.

The Florida State Seminoles have not had the greatest luck recently when facing off against the rival Miami Hurricane. Florida State last defeat their in-state rivals back in 2016 at Miami Gardens. The Seminoles last won at home in 2015.

Those streaks officially ended on Saturday, as the Seminoles defeated the Hurricanes 31-28. There were no doubt many of Florida State’s alma mater hyped up about the win. One of those individuals was Los Angeles Chargers star safety Derwin James.

James played for Florida State from 2015 until 2017. During those years, the defensive back recorded 186 total tackles (15.0 for loss), 15 passes defensed, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown.

On Saturday, Florida State held a 20-7 lead heading into halftime. Miami would bounce back in the second half, taking a 28-20 lead thanks to two touchdown passes by Tyler Van Dyke. But, thanks to a 29-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald and a one-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion by Jordan Travis with 26-seconds remaining in regulation, the Seminoles got their fourth-win of the season.

Travis completed 18-of-26 pass attempts for 274 yards, while running for 62 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

Florida State will look to carry this momentum into their final two games of the regular-season against Boston College and Florida, respectively.
