Garrett Wilson makes Ohio State history in Buckeyes win vs. Purdue
By John Buhler
Garrett Wilson had himself an unforgettable day leading the Ohio State football team past Purdue.
Ohio State football star Garrett Wilson did something no other Buckeyes player had ever done before him.
Going up against the No. 19 Purdue Boilermakers, Wilson had himself a career day as the featured weapon on the Buckeye offense. He had 10 catches for 126 receiving yards and three trips to pay dirt. As if that was not enough, he had a 51-yard rushing touchdown. Wilson became the first Ohio State football player with three touchdown catches and a rushing score in single a ball game.
The Buckeyes improved to 9-1 on the year and 7-0 in Big Ten play after defeating Purdue, 59-31.
Garrett Wilson has record-setting day to lead Ohio State offense past Purdue
There is no doubt about the Buckeyes’ ability to put up points in this high-octane offense. It is why Ohio State is the presumptive favorite to come out of the Big Ten and make the College Football Playoff yet again. However, there is some reason to be concerned about the defense. Purdue can put up points as well, but Ohio State may only be capable of winning shootouts come January.
Regardless, this passing attack with C.J. Stroud at quarterback and Wilson and Chris Olave as the most dynamic receiving tandem in the country cannot be overstated. It will take an elite secondary to slow them down. While a defense of that caliber may not exist over in the Big Ten this season, perhaps Ohio State could meet its match in the upcoming College Football Playoff in a few weeks?
For now, Ohio State re-asserted its dominance by spoiling the Boilermakers’ potential upset bid.
