When did the Kansas Jayhawks last get a win against the Texas Longhorns?

It’s been a few years since the Kansas Jayhawks have managed to get a win against the Texas Longhorns, but it looks like that streak may be coming to a close.

Historically, Texas has a long history of dominance over the Jayhawks. Texas has won 16 of the 19 times the two teams have faced. In more recent history, the Longhorns have definitely controlled this series as two of Kansas’ wins over Texas happened in 1901 and then in 1938.

So, when was Kansas’ most recent win over Texas?

In 2016, the Longhorns hiked up to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Jayhawks. Texas was struggling that season and head coach Charlie Strong was facing plenty of criticism and pressure because of how his team was failing to win. Unfortunately for Strong, the Longhorns weren’t able to get a win that would have prevented him from being immediately fired.

With just under 14 minutes left in that consequential 2016 meeting, the Longhorns held a 21-10 lead. Kansas had been hanging around all game and was able to surge forward late.

With a touchdown run from Khalil Herbert (followed a successful two-point conversion) and a 36-yard field goal with seven seconds left on the clock, Kansas tied things up at 21-21 to force overtime. In overtime, the Jayhawks won thanks to a 25-yard field goal from Wyman.

With that field goal, Kansas won 24-21.

Texas would go on to win in 2017, 2018, and 2019, which would be the last time the two teams faced each other prior to this evening as they didn’t meet in 2020.

Have the Kansas Jayhawks ever beat the Texas Longhorns in Austin?

Nope.

Of those three games Kansas has managed to win, none of them happened in Austin. All three managed to come in Lawrence.

The University of Texas likes to pride itself in its football program’s accomplishments and there are many things to be proud of. While it won’t be at the top of most people’s lists of things to celebrate, never losing to Kansas at home is a fairly impressive thing to note.

That could potentially come to an end though if the Jayhawks are able to pull off a miracle before the Longhorns get moving on over to the SEC. Considering how Texas is trailing 35-14 and the Longhorns are on upset alert at halftime, there’s a good chance that streak could come to an end tonight.
