By Ethan Lee
Tennessee football seeks the program’s first win over the Georgia Bulldogs since the Vols beat them in Athens in 2016 when the two SEC East teams meet in Week 11.
The Tennessee Volunteers are looking to spoil the Georgia Bulldogs’ special season while also bringing a lopsided losing streak to an end. Historically, the series between the Vols and Bulldogs is pretty even, but Georgia has owned the series over the past few seasons.
The Bulldogs have been able to win the last four meetings against Tennessee, setting up a nice winning streak and claiming a lead in the overall series against the Vols.
Tennessee’s last win against Georgia happened in Sanford Stadium in 2016 as the Vols were able to miraculously pull off a comeback win and secure victory in the final moments of the game. Georgia, who at one point led 17-0 in the second quarter, ended up losing 34-31.
The final few minutes of the game featured a thrilling back-and-forth couple of scores. Tennessee had just claimed a 28-24 lead over the Bulldogs thanks to a fumble recovery for a touchdown with less than three minutes left in the game.
However, Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason made a miracle happen as he managed to toss a 47-yard touchdown pass to Riley Ridley, putting the Bulldogs up 31-28 with 10 seconds left on the clock.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, that wouldn’t be the final score of the game.
When did the Tennessee Volunteers last beat the Georgia Bulldogs?
With just seconds remaining on the clock, Vols quarterback Joshua Dobbs threw the game-winning 43-yard touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings, who gave Tennessee a 34-31 lead and win over the Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia.
The Vols won against Georgia the year prior too when they won a back-and-forth affair by a score of 38-31. Tennessee hasn’t won a game against Georgia since and the Bulldogs have routinely won big in this series.
Georgia is expected to for the fifth game in a row as the No. 1 team in the nation with a dominant defense has yet to look vulnerable.
