Rams depth chart after losing Robert Woods to ACL tear, signing Odell Beckham Jr.
On the same day, the Los Angeles Rams signed Odell Beckham, Jr. they lost Robert Woods to a torn ACL he suffered in practice.
Robert Woods is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL at Friday’s practice.
The news was first reported by Diana Russini and Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Woods hurt his knee but completed the rest of the practice session and did all of his media work before it was revealed he tore his ACL.
This is a tough break for the Rams who added Odell Beckham Jr. to the wide receiver group that also included Cooper Kupp, who is enjoying the best season of any receiver in the NFL.
Rams depth chart after Robert Woods injury, signing Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham won’t have the cushion of a buffer week to get acclimated and adjusted to the new offense and his new teammates. He may even have to play on Monday night as a result of Woods being out with the ACL injury.
Beckham may have been a luxury for the Rams at first glance, but with Woods out, he’s absolutely going to be a necessity for the Rams to keep their hopes of winning a Super Bowl alive.
The former Cleveland Browns receiver has struggled to make an impact when he’s been healthy since the trade from the New York Giants. The proverbial change of scenery could do him a wealth of good. Catching passes from Matthew Stafford in an offense designed by Sean McVay should help as well in his attempt to return to his All-Pro status.
McVay was non-committal on Friday whether Beckham would play on Monday night, but that was before it was known Woods was lost for the year. Beckham may not play a big role on Monday night but having him on the field as a decoy if nothing else may be in play.
Van Jefferson should also see a bigger role with Woods out and Beckham adjusting to the new offense.
