The Ohio State Buckeyes had plenty to be proud of after pulverizing the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Day should certainly be proud of how his Ohio State Buckeyes were able to secure a dominant blowout win against the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday afternoon.
Ohio State didn’t waste any time getting out to a huge lead against the Boilermakers as the Buckeyes put up 45 points on the scoreboard in the first half. By the time the game was wrapped up and Ohio State had won, the scoreboard sat at 59-31 in the Buckeyes’ favor.
Even if Purdue isn’t exactly the best team in the Big Ten, that sort of beatdown is pretty impressive.
Here’s what Day, Ohio State’s head coach, had to say after the game:
Ryan Day press conference: Ohio State Buckeyes head coach speaks after win against Purdue Boilermakers
It appears as if Day believes Purdue was a pretty good litmus test for Ohio State’s pass defense. Given how Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell completed 40-of-52 for 390 passing yards and four touchdowns, that’s probably a pretty fair assessment.

Said Purdue threw the ball more than any other team has against Ohio State's defense this year, so they'll have plenty of film to evaluate the pass defense on.
Day says the Buckeye coaching staff gave the offense "a really clean plan" coming into the Purdue game. However, "there's still some things we want to get fixed."

Day mentioned that his team seemed to be playing tense because of their recent struggles. In their past couple of games leading up to this week, Ohio State managed to get past the Penn State Nittany Lions, winning 33-24, and Nebraska, beating the Cornhuskers 26-17.
Ryan Day said the Buckeyes were “a little bit on edge this week, to be quite honest with you” after struggling on offense the last two weeks.

When discussing how his talented quarterback CJ Stoud performed, here’s what Day had to say:
On keeping Stroud in at the end of the game, Day says "we wanted to finish the game the right way." Says it wasn't a consideration to Kyle McCord's redshirt eligibility.

Ryan Day says C.J. Stroud had "the best preparation of the season this week. He was on his game. ... He really put a lot of work in."

Ryan Day said he thought this was C.J. Stroud's best week of preparation.
— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) November 14, 2021
It paid off tonight as Stroud completed 31 of 38 passing attempts for 361 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
And Day is right on the money here. While the Buckeyes have a lot of obvious issues on defense, at least their offense is able to score with ease.
Ryan Day says "we want to make sure every drive we're scoring touchdowns. We did much better tonight."
