Bo Nix reportedly broke his ankle and will miss the rest of the Auburn football season.

After blowing a 28-3 lead to the Mississippi State and then losing the game, the Auburn football team will be without starting quarterback Bo Nix for the rest of the season.

Nix reportedly suffered a broken ankle in the brutal collapse to the Bulldogs. Upon arriving in Auburn as a true freshman two years ago, Nix had been the Tigers’ starting quarterback. While he has been inconsistent at times, he does more good than bad with the ball in his hands. He was starting to come into his own in Mike Bobo’s offense playing for new head coach Bryan Harsin.

Auburn is 6-4 on the year with two SEC games remaining: at South Carolina and home vs. Alabama in Iron Bowl. The Tigers also are bowl eligible and will play a 13th game this season.

Bo Nix injury: Who is Auburn’s backup QB?

So with Nix down for the count, that means his backup TJ Finley will be getting the final three starts of the season for Auburn. The former LSU quarterback has played some in his first year down on The Plains. He played a key part in Auburn avoiding embarrassment at home vs. Georgia State when Nix was ineffective vs. the Panthers. This is a huge, huge opportunity for him now.

If Finley plays well vs. South Carolina and holds his own at home vs. Alabama, there is a chance he could take Nix’s starting job away from him entering next season. Keep in mind that he transferred to Auburn to play for Harsin. Nix may be an Auburn legacy, but he did commit to play for Gus Malzahn. While Nix recovers from injury, it will be Finley doing his best to lead Auburn to victory.

The last two weeks have been very tough for Auburn, but there is still plenty to play for this year.
