Washington football: What is Jimmy Lake’s buyout after being fired?
Jimmy Lake has been fired as the Washington football head coach but the Huskies will pay his buyout rather than firing him for cause.
The writing was on the wall for the Washington football program in regards to head coach Jimmy Lake. Given that the head coach was suspended after striking a player in the facemask and the reports emerged that he’d also previously shoved a player, his days with the Huskies appeared numbered.
Indeed, they were. On Sunday after Washington lost to Arizona State in the game for which Lake was suspended, the program fired their head coach.
However, Washington is not firing Jimmy Lake for cause and, instead, will pay out the remainder of his buyout. So how much money do the Huskies now owe him?
Jimmy Lake buyout: What does Washington football owe former head coach?
According to reports, the Jimmy Lake buyout is worth $9.9 million.
That money will not be paid out to the now-former Washington head coach in a lump sum, though. Instead, Lake will receive that money monthly from the Huskies program over the next three year, which averages out to $275,000 per month.
Just as importantly, that number will also be reduced if Lake is hired somewhere else with his new compensation being factored into the mix.
That’s a hefty sum for Washington football to have to pay Lake but, given the circumstances, it’s probably worth it.
