MLB Rumors: 3 teams trying to steal Eduardo Rodriguez from Red Sox
While the Boston Red Sox are hoping to re-sign lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, multiple teams are showing interest in trying to land him as well.
Will left-handed reliever Eduardo Rodriguez make his way back to Fenway Park to suit up for the Boston Red Sox? That’s what fans in Massachusetts are hoping for, but things are far from a guarantee. That’s because there’s other teams out there who want his services.
Per MLB insider Jon Morosi, the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels are all showing interest. There’s clearly a strong market for Rodriguez. Where will he end up playing come next spring?
Eduardo Rodriguez free agency is certainly heating up
Rodriguez will have quite the decision upcoming to make. Per Jon Heyman, Boston has put a multi-year offer on the table for him to return to the team. He’s yet to pull the trigger on that, however, and is weighing his options.
Rodriguez has spent his entire career suiting up for Boston, making his major league debut back in 2015. His best season came in 2019, as he made a mind-blowing 34 starts and posted a 19-6 record. He also posted a 3.81 ERA and a career-high 213 strikeouts.
This past season for Boston, Rodriguez went 13-8, but with a concerning 4.74 ERA, the worst of his career thus far. Despite that, Rodriguez is still a strong starter in the bigs and there’s a reason so many clubs out there are interesting in stealing him away from Boston.
While it doesn’t look like anything is imminent right now, the longer Rodriguez waits to sign, the more nervous Boston fans out there are going to be.
