Seattle Seahawks defensive end Carlos Dunlap threw the shoe of a Green Bay Packers lineman and drew an utterly silly penalty.

What is it with Florida Gators and throwing shoes?

Seahawks defensive end and former Florida star Carlos Dunlap drew a boneheaded penalty against the Packers when he picked up an opponent’s shoe and threw it down the field.

It was a potentially costly mistake as well as a dumb one. The penalty turned what would have been a third-and-short just beyond midfield into a first down at the Seattle 27. Green Bay went on to score a touchdown on that drive.

Carlos Dunlap’s shoe throw mirrored Florida’s Marco Wilson

The funny thing here, if you’re not a Seahawks fan frustrated by that gaff hurting your team, is that Dunlap went to Florida.

The Gators famously lost to LSU in 2020 because cornerback Marco Wilson drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for throwing a shoe. His shoe throw gave the Tigers new life and they went on to kick a field goal to win the game.

Wilson now plays for the Arizona Cardinals. He might get back to the locker room after Arizona’s loss to the Panthers and wonder why his name is trending. He can blame Dunlap for that one.

Dunlap’s Seahawks ended up losing to the Packers, 17-0. The shoe throw wasn’t as clearly responsible for the loss as Wilson’s, but it definitely didn’t help Seattle in the long run.
