3 potential destinations for Clayton Kershaw in free agency
By Ethan Lee
After the Los Angeles Dodgers decided not to give Clayton Kershaw a qualifying offer, he’s now an unrestricted free agent. Who could sign Kershaw as a free agent?
With Clayton Kershaw officially entering into free agency, there’s a ton of interest around where the legendary pitcher could land. The Los Angeles Dodgers chose not to give their longtime star a qualifying offer and now Kershaw has the freedom to look around and find a new team if he so chooses.
Unfortunately for Kershaw, his age and injury history could potentially complicate matters in contract negotiations. At 33-years-old and coming off a season in which an injury limited him, Kershaw is likely entering into the final few years of his career.
Though he’s been dominant for the Dodgers for well over a decade, Kershaw hasn’t been as great as of late and teams may be hesitant to throw a ton of money his way.
So, where could he end up?
3 MLB teams Clayton Kershaw should consider in free agency
3. Los Angeles Angels
Assuming Kershaw wants to stay out west and play for a team that is looking to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2014, he could just take a trip over to Anaheim and play for the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels have a few prominent stars on their team, but they (like just about every other team in MLB) would benefit from having Kershaw in their starting rotation. The Angels already have some young, fresh talent in their starting rotation which would allow Kershaw to potentially get a bit more rest and keep him from carrying an unnecessary burden.
Plus, it’d be fascinating to see Kershaw play alongside Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout while helping the Angels finally make it back to postseason play.
