Max Scherzer could be one of the top pitchers in baseball switching teams in his free agency.
Despite being in his late 30s, Max Scherzer remains one of the best starting pitchers in baseball.
The future hall of famer was dealt from the Washington Nationals to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline. Though he went from a losing team to a winning one, the Dodgers fell two games shy of returning to the World Series. While Scherzer could potentially re-up with the Boys in Blue during his free agency, there will be several other suitors hoping to sign him this winter.

The Los Angeles Angels have the payroll, need an ace, but will they win enough?
One potential dark horse contender to land Scherzer is the Los Angeles Angels. They have two superstars on the roster already in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. However, their star power has not translated to anything close to October success. Scherzer would not have to leave the Los Angeles media market, but the Angels’ lack of on-field success is concerning, to say the least.

If the Boston Red Sox land Max Scherzer, they have to be the AL favorites
The Boston Red Sox were one of the teams Scherzer was reportedly open to being traded to. Boston got back into the postseason last year and played the Houston Astros hard in the ALCS. However, they ran out of gas in the latter part of October. Putting Scherzer in the same Boston rotation with Nathan Eovaldi and Chris Sale sounds awesome, but he will not come cheap either.
While Scherzer could end up on the Angels or the Red Sox, these three teams are way more likely to end up signing him in his high-profile free agency.
