Former NBA champion has finally made DWTS history

The Dancing With the Stars finals are set, and a former NBA champion has made history as a result.

The 30th season of Dancing with the Stars is nearing its conclusion, with the finals set to take place next week. With the semi-final round officially over, a former NBA champion has made history.

Iman Shumpert, formerly of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has advanced to the finals, becoming the first NBA player to do so in Dancing With the Stars history.

That’s right, an NBA player has not reached the finale in the previous 29 seasons of the popular program.

Shumpert and partner Daniella Karagach scored a total of 75 points in the semifinals, including a 37-out-of-40 on the tango and a 38-out-of-40 for their Jazz dance. That was tied for the third-best score of the semifinals.

With six duos vying for four spots in the finale, Olympic gymnast Suni Lee and The Office star Melora Hardin were eliminated from the competition.

Joining Shumpert in the finals is YouTube personality JoJo Siwa, television personality Amanda Kloots and Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby.

Shumpert has made history becoming the first person from the NBA to make a run at the Mirror Ball trophy, and he will look to become the 12th athlete to win the entire season. Here are the other sports figures to hoist the Mirror Ball trophy:
