Texas football: Updated depth chart with Bijan Robinson out for the year
By John Buhler
It is season over for Texas football star Bijan Robinson, who suffered a dislocated elbow.
The 4-6 Texas football team will have to carry on without its best player Bijan Robinson the rest of the way.
Robinson dislocated his elbow in the Longhorn’s unthinkable home loss to the Kansas Jayhawks last week. Naturally, he has been ruled out for the rest of the season by first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian. For Texas to achieve bowl eligibility, they have beat West Virginia in Morgantown and Kansas State at home. So who will be filling in for the Longhorns’ best player going forward?
Texas has depth at the running back position, but not having Robinson available hurts their chances to be bowl eligible considerably.
Texas football depth chart: Who replaces Bijan Robinson?
Moving up Texas running back depth chart in Robinson’s extended absence are Roschon Johnson and Keilan Robinson. Johnson moves up to the featured back now that Bijan Robinson is out. Keilan Robinson will get more touches moving up to No. 2. Look for freshman running back Jonathon Brooks to get more run with more carries now readily available in the depleted backfield.
Ultimately, it serves Texas to put Robinson on ice in what remains of a lost cause season. He is only a sophomore, so he will have one more year of eligibility before potentially turning pro after 2022. Texas is currently riding a five-game losing streak. While some Longhorns fans are longing for the days of Tom Herman as their head coach, this is only year one of the Sarkisian era in Austin.
If Texas wants any hope of getting to a bowl game, the Longhorns need Johnson and Robinson to step up with their team’s best player now out for the rest of the season.
