If the BCS decided what teams made the College Football Playoff field, here is what it would look like entering Week 12 of the 2021 college season.

While the College Football Playoff Selection Committee has a tall task every week to rank the 25 best teams in college football, some fans are longing for the days of the old BCS to determine their college football rankings.

Last week saw the Selection Committee put Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State as the four teams in with Cincinnati, Michigan and Michigan State as the first three teams out. Again, the Selection Committee re-ranks all the teams in college football every single week in an attempt to remove biases. Too bad it rarely works, but hey, their decisions create one great television show.

Here is how the BCS would have ranked the teams heading into Week 12 of the college season.

College Football Playoff teams using BCS Rankings, Week 12

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Cincinnati Bearcats
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes

While the top two teams would not have changed, the BCS would have had Cincinnati No. 3 behind Georgia and Alabama instead of Oregon. Getting that last spot in would still be Ohio State at No. 4. The first three teams out in the BCS rankings system would be Notre Dame at No. 5, Michigan at No. 6 and Oregon at No. 7. Oklahoma State, Michigan State and Oklahoma round out the top 10.

What the BCS system reveals is the Selection Committee is overvaluing Oregon considerably. The Ducks may have the head-to-head victory over the Buckeyes in The Horseshoe, but the computers show Ohio State is the better team at this point of the season. Conversely, the BCS system places a lot of stock in Cincinnati. That’s not surprising, but the Notre Dame love sure is.

Either way, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State are indisputably three of the four best teams in college football at this point of the 2021 season.
