After signing a multi-year deal with the Detroit Tigers, pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez said goodbye to the Boston Red Sox.

The MLB Hot Stove is simmering this week, with the news of Noah Syndergaard agreeing to a deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. But the first huge move of the offseason was pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez signing a massive five-year, $77 million contract with the Detroit Tigers on Monday. That meant after seven seasons, Rodriguez’s time with the Boston Red Sox had reached its end.

24 hours after the deal was reported, Rodriguez posted a farewell message to the Red Sox and the Boston fanbase.

Rodriguez joined the Red Sox back in 2014 as part of a trade that sent pitcher Andrew Miller to the Baltimore Orioles. The left-hander pitched in seven seasons with Boston, where he held a cumulative 64-39 win-loss record and 4.16 ERA, while earning his first World Series title in 2018.

This past season, Rodriguez recorded a 4.74 ERA, a 13-8 record and 185 strikeouts over 157.2 innings of work. Rodriguez had returned after missing the entirety of the 2020 campaign after being diagnosed with myocarditis after contracting COVID-19.

At the conclusion of this season, the Red Sox offered Rodriguez the $18.4 million qualifying offer. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels were interested in signing Rodriguez, but it was the Tigers who won out.

As part of his deal with Detroit, Rodriguez has an opt-out clause following the 2023.

While Rodriguez is set to begin the next phase of his career with the Tigers, he wanted to thank the Red Sox and the fans for the memories.
