Seton Hall went on the road to face No. 4-ranked Michigan on Tuesday and the Pirates notched the massive upset win, sending college basketball media into a frenzy.
Though playing against Seton Hall was never going to be a walk in the park, No. 4-ranked Michigan basketball playing at home felt like they should have the edge over the Pirates. But as the game wore on for the Wolverines, it was clear they were in a down-to-the-wire battle in Ann Arbor.
Going back-and-forth throughout the game, Michigan found themselves ahead 64-63 over Seton Hall. However, a handful of missed shots left the Wolverines trailing 66-64 in the final second when Terrance Williams II drew a foul to go to the line.
Unfortunately for him and his teammates, he was unable to convert both, missing the first and ultimately helping Seton Hall secure the massive upset win over a top-five team in the country.
Michigan basketball upset by Seton Hall: Media reactions
Naturally, the college basketball media were loving the first top-five upset of the season.
A stunner in Ann Arbor, wow. What a win for Seton Hall and what a week for the Big East so far…

Brilliant, ridiculous defense for Seton Hall down the stretch. Can't remember a time in the last five minutes when Michigan got a genuinely good look.

Michigan basketball confirmed frauds imo

Seton Hall doesn't have Myles Powell or Sandro Mamukelashvili, but it has a team that looks destined to be a player nationally. https://t.co/j0mkVLiCAz
Michigan losing to Seaton Hall tonight. Means No. 4 Wolverines heading to Vegas Friday to play UNLV at @TMobileArena with first loss of the season under their belts. #unlvmbb pic.twitter.com/hCEPWNqxPo

I was very critical of #Michigan #ncaab because they're not very good. Too many misses and they don't have more than one big.

Upset, but not really as #SetonHall is a better team.
Well, well, well. We have our first sizable upset of the college hoops season: No. 4 Michigan goes down at home 67-65 to unranked Seton Hall. First top 20 team to lose to an unranked opponent.

Big East is now 4-0 in Gavitt Games vs. the Big Ten.
What made the upset even more impressive and fun to see was the fact that it wasn’t all that unfamiliar.
In fact, it was the second night in a row that a Big Ten team got knocked off by an unranked Big East team after Illinois lost to Marquette on Monday. However, the Illini weren’t a top-four team in college basketball as the Wolverines were.
The good news for Michigan basketball, though, is that it’s still early in the season, meaning there’s more than enough time for the Wolverines to bounce back and recover from this one.
