Future LSU football coach Tyrann Mathieu? Former Tiger calls his shot
Former LSU football legend Tyrann Mathieu hopes to return to Baton Rouge as the team’s head coach when his NFL career is over.
LSU has an opening for a new head coach with the team buying out the remainder of Ed Orgeron’s contract. Count Tyrann Mathieu among those interested. Just not now.
The Kansas City Chiefs safety tweeted he’s a future LSU football coach in response to Mike Sando, an NFL reporter for The Athletic who shared two tweets from Mathieu critiquing the play of Mac Jones, saying he’s a future GM.
Mathieu tweeted earlier on Tuesday about the play of the New England Patriots rookie quarterback who was the fifth signal-caller taken in the first round of the draft but is arguably playing the best of the first-year players.
Mathieu called out the skeptics and the critics of Jones who are now loving his play, saying they are so funny they should be on Comedy Central.
Tyrann Mathieu could be a great college coach at LSU
Mathieu was a Heisman finalist as a sophomore at LSU but that was where his college career ended. He was removed from the team as a junior for off-field reasons. He slipped to the third round of the NFL Draft as a result but has been a standout player in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.
One of the more instinctive players in the NFL throughout his career and a player who has outplayed his smaller stature to produce Pro Bowl seasons, Mathieu would make a great head coach in the future.
If Mathieu wants to pursue a coaching career when his NFL career is over, LSU would be a great place for him to get some experience.
Never discount the possibility that Mathieu could become a great coach in the future. Maybe even at his alma mater.
